Arts and entertainment news in Summit County

The Friends of Summit County Libraries present “Cuba and Cars of the ’50s” at 7 p.m. tonight in the Blue River Room of the North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle in Silverthorne.

In December 2010, Bob Hinderholtz visited Havana and Trinidad on a humanitarian tour sponsored by Elderhostel. The group brought non-prescription drugs, foods and seasonings, and school supplies.

Hinderholtz discovered a city in some need of repair, “but still one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” he said. “The people are very proud, and this pride really shows up in their love and care for classic 1950 American cars. I think these cars are in better shape now than they were in the ’50′s.”

Another discovery was the Cuban music.

“I was really impressed with the music,” Hinderholtz said. “No matter where you went in Havana or Trinidad, the quality of the music was amazing, very professional.

Join Hinderholtz for this free talk (donations accepted) and slide show tonight. The Friends of the Libraries presents these talks as part of their fundraising efforts to help the libraries purchase books and other supplies. For information, call 468-5887.
